MILTON ABBEY

& LANDSCAPE

DORSET

  • The convergence of Cretaceous chalk valleys formed 65 million years ago

  • The decision of King Athelstan in 934 AD to found the Abbey at Milton

  • 'Capability' Brown's vision in 1764:  500 acres of grass, woodland, abbey, farms and villages, set in the winding hills and valleys, with the abbey as focal point - looking back to the Middle Ages, forward to the Agricultural Revolution.

Three moments in time which together created the unique experience of today.  The Grade I Listed Abbey Church was, over five years, the subject of loving restoration -  with £750,000 of grant funding achieved by TRA.

A future  intertwined with the conceptual future of the English Landscape.
